Slave Liberation
PROJECT BACKGROUND
‘Liberation’ in this context represents the liberation from bondage and being “Slaves”, which is an analogy to represent people in nowadays’ society. By combining the two conceptual words, it expresses the idea that people today have lost themselves under the capitalist system and only care about money and their own interests. At this critical moment, most people have become soulless. Although ‘Social Slaves’ work hard all their lives, their social status remains the same. In this series, fashion is used to express the injustice of the lower class under the capitalist system, whereas the rich and poor are reflected between luxurious craftsmanship and minimal tailoring style.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The theme mainly illustrates that as people pursue freedom under capitalism, they have also become ‘modern slaves’ and sacrificed themselves to earn money for better living. I want to integrate ‘luxury’ and ‘poverty’ into this collection and redefine what the two elements really are by creating a fusion of the extreme states. This project allows the audience to redefine their concepts of ‘luxury’ and ‘poverty’, thus generate a reflection on why the two words are so contrasting in nature.
