PROJECT BACKGROUND
Once we’ve started to use the internet services in our daily life, we have consented to many terms that we do not understand, such as the WhatsApp data policy. As not everyone reads the information in details and understands the exact meaning of the contents, then what is the point to write such complicated and complex clauses in the Terms and Conditions in order to achieve others’ informed consent?
PROJECT CONCEPT
“Reading the Terms” is an interactive installation comprised of an app, triggerable AR objects, and four interactive motion graphics. Through the use of an app, the piece of work links the entire scene, which allows the audiences to read the instructions on the app carefully to explore and discover the contents of the installation. The app guides audiences to search for the AR objects and activates the related animation, which depicts the terms that audiences may have consented to. In the process. Audiences are encouraged to read through the text stated in the app. Some functions will be limited if audiences just blindly agree to the terms. This act aims to challenge the actual practice of agreeing to the terms and encourage the signees to think carefully.
