Using VR for Driving Practice Skills
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Based on my research report on using virtual reality technology to practice driving skills, there are around 8,000 to 9,000 traffic accidents in Hong Kong every year that relate to private cars drivers. As practice makes perfect, providing additional training opportunities for licensed drivers and learners can improve their attitudes, behaviours, and attention to road safety, which can ultimately reduce the possibility of human errors. Our aim is to provide a solution or alternative way to make people more accessible to training that can improve their everyday driving techniques.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Like the concept of Metaverse, virtual worlds are computer-generated environments where online users in remote physical locations can interact in real-time for the purpose of work or play. This application is designed to be a VR driver training simulator working with a VR headset and steering wheel controller to offer a realistic training experience for drivers. Users will wear a VR headset that connects with the VR-ready PC to view the virtual training contents. By using the steering wheel controller, drivers can control virtual cars with realistic setup to experience several essential driving tutorials and road tests.
