Atlantis & Phylum Cnidaria
Mysterious and legendary disappearing kingdom
PROJECT BACKGROUND
According to legend, Poseidon, the sea god, created the kingdom of Atlantis. Poseidon married the girl and gave birth to five twins. So Poseidon divided the island into ten districts and gave them for his ten sons to rule. The eldest son was a supreme ruler. As this eldest son is called 'Atlas' (Άτλας), the country was called the 'Atlantis' kingdom. The ten kings were very intelligent, and their respective countries were also very rich and powerful. The theme of my design was inspired by the sparkling halo produced by a jellyfish swimming in the deep sea. This halo made me think about two sophisticated ideas - one was the mysterious nature of some kinds of sea creatures and the other was human beings’ attitude towards sea creatures.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The jellyfish when swimming in the sea, it takes on the colours around it. Hence, I’m going to put the changing colours of jellyfish into my work. The main colour used is achromatic colour such as lucent, which symbolizes emptiness and nature. This expresses the immortality of jellyfish and integrates it into a seemingly infinite cycle of immortality. We wanted to express the feeling of mystery, we chose to use blue as an important colour for the whole theme, for the mysterious colour of blue can make people feel depressed. For the makeup, I took some pictures of real mermaids and used some skeletal textures on their bodies and faces to complete the shape of my entire makeup. For the hairstyling, I used a more explosive feeling to create the feeling of seagrass drifting in the deep sea.
