Mývatn Pavilion
PROJECT BACKGROUND
With the aim of promoting Lake Mývatn as a successful example of adopting the circular economy and sustainability, the Skutustaohreppur municipality in Iceland has planned to build a community centre that will serve as a meeting place for local residents and visitors to meet and learn from each other while sharing and trading the materials and resources.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Placing great emphasis on the circular economy and sustainability, the Community Centre is constructed with tree-shaped columns using timber recycled from driftwood and upcycled construction materials. Souvenirs and products made of recycled timber and materials will be available in the Centre. Local residents and visitors can trade and share business ideas there and enjoy the aurora and great sceneries around Lake Mývatn.
