LIFE N
A Project Celebrating the Second Life of Toys
PROJECT BACKGROUND
This design was born from the designer’s personal experience with toys and the emotional value that the toys bring to one’s life. “Life N” proposes that old or broken toys do not need to be discarded. Instead, many old toys can have a second life. The project’s site is an ice factory in Yau Tong, which is now converted into a toy repairing centre that aims at reconnecting people with their own memories and perhaps creating new memories or bonds between generations.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The design concept is explored by taking broken pieces of objects/toys and recombining them to create new toys. These explorations led to a design that feels like a spatial collage. The idea of toy repair is the heart of the design, whereas the toy journey is expressed in the exposed conveyor belts that transport the toys through the space in a sequence from worn to reborn.
