Beauty of defect & Raven
White crow showing the beauty of defect
PROJECT BACKGROUND
There are cracks in life to show infinite light. The cracks in life represent the defect, whereas the infinite light represents beauty. Innate natural beauty always comes with flaws, but this flaw is to let us discover the unique light for us. Even for an ordinary stone, we can still see the dazzling brilliance in it through the cracks. This beauty defect is related to the 'white crow'. To most people, raven is an unlucky symbol that carries a negative image. Hence, they would try to avoid seeing ravens as far as possible. Interesting, while it is wildly believed that ravens bring illness, death, and bad luck, some cultures see the image of ravens as positive and good lucky. The mix of concepts make ravens more mysterious.
PROJECT CONCEPT
According to the concept of Wabi-Sabi, everything is described as imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness in nature. The perception of a white crow in Greek mythology of sacred and bright feeling is used to highlight the beauty of defects. From the surface, the colour of black ravens scares people. However, if we try to explore more about ravens, we will find out many other images of this creature. For instance, while ravens were the birds of Apollo in ancient Greece that represented intelligence, they were also worshipped in Japan. As the different images have made ravens more mysterious, it will be interesting to know more about their different images.
