Short film “Accompany”
PROJECT BACKGROUND
By making reference to my own childhood experience, I created the character 'Hin'. The love that cannot be obtained from family members was sought from others. In fact, it is a very serious and distressing thing for a child not to receive the love and care that he deserved during childhood. As the problem of emotional negligence is very common in the society, I created 'Hin' to illustrate the social phenomenon. The role of 'Uncle Cheung', lonely, depressed, self-isolating, was the epitome of the elderly living alone in Hong Kong. In this fast-paced society, our desire for efficiency has influenced our relationships with different people. Living a busy life in the metropolitan, we seldom pay attention to each other's feelings.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Referring to some of the paintings by Edward Hopper, the 'big' of space is used to contrast the 'smallness' in the individuals, forming a huge sense of emptiness. The feeling of loneliness is highlighted by the incongruity of the warm light reflected on the lonely 'shadow'.
