Ocean (team I)
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Sustainability is the current buzzword, in which many brands are emphasizing on their objectives in environmental sustainability. In fact, jewellery lovers are also looking for jewellers who show commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. For example, they will consider whether the jewellers offer sourcing solutions that can keep track of the origin of a diamond, minimise the negative impacts on the environment, and protect labour rights. Jewellery designers need to explore new concepts in jewellery design as well as new materials and production methods to cater to the market needs. How do we, as jewellery designers, design a piece of jewellery that can raise the public awareness for environmental friendliness and sustainability?
PROJECT CONCEPT
Our group chose 'Ocean' as the theme for this environmental protection exhibition. The design concept is based on human selfishness that harmed the innocent creatures by creating marine debris, plastic waste, and other pollution issues. For examples, seahorses, sharks, flying fish, whales, etc. are used in the process of jewellery production. Through the metalwork process, we make jewellery with themes that centered around the different problems of ocean pollution.
