Oldies But Goodies
New Meanings to Old Spaces and Stories
PROJECT BACKGROUND
This project is motivated by the need for the elderly in Hong Kong to have room for continuous growth. While well-being is a comprehensive topic that includes health, it also goes beyond the individuals and addresses the community and social interactions. This project intends to facilitate a community for elderly to find a fruitful retirement life by adapting the existing St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged grade II historic building into a retirement home.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The idea was inspired by the site’s composition where there are three buildings facing an inner empty space. The design opens all three buildings towards the central court, which is reimagined as a connecting landscape. In a journey that can be seen as a continuous link between all activities, users can stroll to find their quiet moments or socialize with others for some cheerful time.
