Women Centre for Minority
Ethnic Minority Women Cultural Space
PROJECT BACKGROUND
This project proposes the adaptation of the former Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association building in Kwai Chung into a cultural centre for ethnic minority women. The project has explored the potential of public space, learning, and market activities in building a sense of community in the area.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The design takes into account the symmetrical and compartmentalised character of the existing building and inserts a new open central space to arrange the circulation. This creates a series of private spaces that relate to a new open inner area, fostering both the privacy of the users and their need for social activities.
