PROJECT BACKGROUND
An outfit for Violetta Valéry in La Traviata is designed to show her opulent lifestyle leading as a courtesan, as well as the death and destruction of not only her love for the Bourgeois Alfredo, but also her own body, which deteriorated as she suffered from a terminal illness.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Violetta’s 1700s mantua symbolises her life as a courtesan with striking pink lining. This shrouds her petticoat of the many colours of blood in various states – fresh, dried, old, and dead, denoting the death and torment of both her emotional and physical states. With asymmetrical and disordered pattern in design, the outfit features blood cells amongst the chaos.
